What to Expect During a Skin Excision Visit:

Initial Consultation & Evaluation
Your visit begins with an assessment of the skin lesion. We’ll discuss your concerns, the lesion’s history (changes in size, color, or shape), and your medical background. If we suspect the lesion could be cancerous, we may recommend a biopsy before or after excision.

Preparation & Anesthesia
The area around the lesion is cleaned and sterilized. We use a local anesthetic to numb the area so you’ll feel little to no pain during the procedure.

Excision Procedure
Using sterile surgical instruments, our provider removes the lesion along with a small margin of surrounding skin (if medically necessary). Depending on the size and location, stitches may be used to close the wound.

Wound Care & Follow-Up
You’ll receive detailed instructions on how to care for the site at home. We’ll also discuss signs of infection and when to return for suture removal (if needed). If the lesion is sent for pathology, we’ll follow up with results and any necessary next steps.
