Botox Do’s and Don’ts: How to Get the Best Results from Your Treatment

Whether you’re smoothing fine lines or preventing future wrinkles, Botox is one of the most popular and effective non-surgical aesthetic treatments available. But to get the most out of your injections—and avoid common side effects—it’s important to follow a few key guidelines before and after your appointment.
At Midland Express Urgent and Family Care, we want every patient to feel informed, comfortable, and confident in their results. So we’ve put together this helpful list of Botox Do’s and Don’ts to guide you every step of the way.
The Do’s of Botox
Choose a Qualified Provider
Always choose a licensed medical professional who is trained in facial anatomy and certified in aesthetic injections. At Midland Express, your Botox is administered by experienced providers who prioritize safety, precision, and natural-looking results.
Communicate Your Goals Clearly
Let your provider know what areas you’d like to improve—whether it’s frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles, or brow asymmetry. Clear communication ensures the results are aligned with your expectations.
Stay Upright for 4 Hours After Treatment
To prevent Botox from migrating to unintended areas, stay upright and avoid lying down for at least 4 hours post-treatment. This allows the product to settle properly.
Make a Follow-Up Appointment if Needed
Botox results typically appear within 3 to 7 days, with full results visible in about 2 weeks. If you're unsure about the results or need a touch-up, schedule a follow-up to ensure you’re satisfied.
Be Patient with Results
Botox doesn’t deliver instant changes. Be patient as your muscles gradually relax and fine lines begin to fade.
The Don’ts of Botox
Don’t Rub or Massage Treated Areas
Rubbing, touching, or applying pressure to your face right after injections can cause the product to spread beyond the targeted area. Avoid facials, massages, or any treatments in the area for at least 24 hours.
Don’t Exercise Immediately After Botox
Intense physical activity increases blood flow, which can potentially disperse the Botox before it has a chance to fully bind to the muscles. Wait at least 24 hours before working out.
Don’t Drink Alcohol or Take Blood Thinners Before Treatment
Avoid alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen, and other blood thinners for 24–48 hours before your appointment. These can increase the risk of bruising and swelling.
Don’t Panic Over Minor Side Effects
It’s common to experience slight redness, tenderness, or a mild headache after treatment. These side effects usually subside within a day or two. Contact your provider if anything feels unusual or persists longer than expected.
Don’t Get Botox If You’re Pregnant or Breastfeeding
Botox is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding due to limited safety data. Be sure to let your provider know if you are expecting.
